What can River & Bean actually do for you?
River & Bean is not just a room with coffee in it, although frankly that is already more useful than many meetings.
It is a private cafe space in Ayr that can be used for meetings, fundraisers, ticketed events, workshops, consultations, exhibitions, recordings, clubs, training, interviews, base-of-operations bookings and practical organisation use.
The point is not only who could use it. The point is what benefit they could get from it.
Monthly Meetings Plus Quarterly Fundraisers
For charities, clubs and member organisations, this may be the strongest model.
Use River & Bean for regular committee meetings, planning sessions, member catch-ups or club use. Then, once a quarter, run a fundraiser, ticketed talk, workshop, drinks-supported evening, merch sale or community event.
Subject to agreement and suitability, tickets, event merch, drinks and fundraising products can be sold through the River & Bean system. If the event sells well, it may cover or reduce the cost of the hire and support your organisation at the same time.
That can make a subscription or membership route a real cost saver, or even a money earner, for the right group.
You get a predictable base, a large screen and meeting setup, a practical sales route, and fewer monthly venue-haggling rituals. Everyone deserves fewer rituals involving room hire emails.
Ticketed Events and Event Merch
Organisers can propose ticketed events at River & Bean.
Examples include:
- talks
- workshops
- launches
- fundraisers
- training sessions
- panel discussions
- small conferences
- club events
- paid social sessions
- exhibition extensions
- product or merch nights
- Lunch and Learn sessions
You are the organiser of the event. River & Bean facilitates the venue, sales route and agreed support.
You may take payment yourself in cash or through your own payment provider and use River & Bean to manage the event listing, tickets and attendance where agreed.
Alternatively, ticket sales may be processed through River & Bean, subject to our conditions.
Ticketed events require at least 72 hours notice, River & Bean agreement, and a non-refundable hire deposit before ticket sales begin.
Fundraising Events
Charities, clubs, schools, student groups, social enterprises and for-good projects can use River & Bean for fundraiser nights, coffee campaigns, Happy Coo treats, Proper Coffee, Propa Cuppa, ticketed talks, merch sales or event-linked product sales.
Where eligible and agreed, this can combine:
- discounted or subscription-supported hire
- ticket sales
- drinks service
- event merch
- fundraising product sales
- profit-share
- Fresh Ayr Fund contribution
That means one event can support your organisation, River & Bean and wider community projects at the same time. A suspiciously rare win-win-win, so naturally it requires some paperwork.
Base of Operations
Use River & Bean as a private base for a group day in Ayr.
Useful for:
- youth groups
- clubs
- volunteer teams
- support organisations
- seaside trips
- campaign days
- fundraising days
- town-centre activities
- groups with mixed energy or access needs
Your group gets somewhere to gather, leave bags, charge phones, use facilities, make drinks, regroup, eat, decompress and avoid conducting logistics from a wet pavement.
Committee Meetings and Recurring Clubs
River & Bean can provide a recurring meeting base for:
- committees
- boards
- clubs
- campaign groups
- trustees or steering groups
- microbusiness teams
- project teams
- member organisations
The benefit is predictability: same place, same setup, less monthly admin, and the option to combine regular use with occasional fundraising or member events.
Consultations, Interviews and Local Conferences
River & Bean can work well for:
- local consultations
- community interviews
- research sessions
- recruitment days
- stakeholder meetings
- small conferences
- fringe sessions
- private briefings
- listening events
The space is private, calm and central, which is useful when people need to talk properly rather than shout over a public cafe's aggressive milk steamer.
Lunch and Learn, Training and Workshops
Use the space for:
- Lunch and Learn sessions
- evening training
- practical workshops
- skills sessions
- staff development
- volunteer onboarding
- community education
- creative classes
You can run these as private sessions, ticketed public events, fundraiser sessions, member events or partner-led programmes where suitable.
Exhibitions, Art Sales and Creative Extensions
River & Bean may be useful alongside exhibitions elsewhere, including Grain Exchange exhibitions where sales or payments are not possible on-site.
An artist, collective or organiser could use River & Bean as an extension of the exhibition for:
- paid artist talks
- small private views
- print or merch sales
- workshops
- collection points
- ticketed creative sessions
- buyer conversations
This depends on suitability, permissions and the event structure, but it could turn attention from an exhibition into actual support for the artist or project.
Recording, Streaming and Studio Use
River & Bean can be used as a small private studio for:
- podcast recording
- video calls
- interviews
- livestreams
- content days
- product photography
- campaign filming
- online workshops
Tell us what kit, quiet, layout and timing you need, and we will tell you honestly whether the space fits.
Organisation Away-Days and Planning Sessions
Use River & Bean for a proper planning day without booking a bland hotel room that smells faintly of carpet, panic and overboiled coffee.
Good for:
- strategy sessions
- project planning
- volunteer planning
- board development
- campaign design
- training days
- team reset days
Coffee and basic drinks are included with standard hire, and external catering is welcome.
